Personal Style for a Character
Personal style and fashion is about who you are and the way you feel when wearing what you are wearing. It’s a confidence, a swagger, and one of the most visual aspects of expressing yourself to the everyday world.
I have a favorite pair of vintage motorcycle boots that I found at a boutique vintage shop in Chicago. Whenever I wear them, I feel like it’s my armor for combating the day. Something about them makes me feel empowered and alive. There’s literally no greater feeling than waking up in the morning and rocking these boots. Pictured above is me in these old, battered boots.
Here’s your writing challenge:
Think about what your character wears , when he/she wears it, and why. If your character was clearing out the closet, what is one thing that character would keep. Write a scene where your main protagonist has a fashion faux pas. Does your character keep an old pair of pants from his or her skinny days in the hopes they might fit again someday?
